it's not called the "white" paper for nothing...

white paper

Beijing: The Chinese government has rebuked Australia for "irresponsible" remarks about Chinese island building in the South China Sea in its Foreign Policy White Paper issued on Thursday.

The paper says the South China Sea is a fault line, and that Australia is particularly concerned at the "unprecedented pace and scale" of China's activities in the region crucial for shipping.

My cartoons are “lazy plonkt”.

I have been lucky. Very lucky. I count my weavings and duckings. I don’t believe in “blessings”... Understanding things has been my quest, though I still don’t understand much. One of my very good friend gave me a book. Lucky me.

“The real impact of the book came from its example. Leonardo [Fibonacci] included a wealth of applications of mathematics to business and trade. These included conversions of money, weight, and content, method of barter, business partnerships, and allocation of profit, alloying of money, investment of money, and simple and compound interest.”

liberal luminary's apology...

John Alexander, the Liberal candidate for Bennelong in next month's by-election, has apologised after a video surfaced online of him telling crude jokes in the 1990s.

nothing's sacred...

Today, at midday, I celebrated 66 years, two months, five days and 27 minutes of cartooning. On this site alone, one can count 5,193.7 cartoons. Thus, while at the local barber yesterday, I felt I deserved a small pat on the back. Mind you there are a lot of better cartoonists missing in the line up of the Press Club. This is where one remembers Groucho Marx about joining a club, especially: "The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made." We've all been there.

the futility of the abbott...

abbott and the rabbits...

Abbott and the rabbits... This cartoon by Hop, published 1885 in the Bulletin, shows the futility of prayers. They had no effect on the population of rabbits. Rabbits had become the number one pest for farmers and despite recent attempts by the CSIRO to eradicate them with various infectious disease, they still thrive... but do far less damage than the wild cats.
