These questions arrived in the mail Monday morn courtesy of R.R. Reno, who edits First Things, a high-end journal of religious and public affairs that concerns itself with the intersection of the two. One way or another, in one or another set of terms, I have wondered about these things for years. Can you be an American and a sentient being—which do not always go together—and not pose these questions, silently or among others?

A group of Japanese activists took to the streets in the western Japanese city of Hiroshima on Friday (May 19) to protest against the G7 leaders' summit and nuclear war.

Protesters said their ire was sparked by a meeting of leaders of several nuclear-armed powers, including the United States, in a city that was devastated by the world’s first atomic bombing in 1945.

The G7 summit runs from Friday to Sunday (May 19-21), in which member country leaders are expected to discuss a possible tightening of sanctions on Russia, and security concerns about China, among other issues.

HIROSHIMA, Japan — With Russia’s war on Ukraine nearing a potential inflection point, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to travel to Japan this weekend to address U.S. President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders, drawing on this city’s tragic history as a backdrop for his latest plea to secure more military and financial support.

Although the details of Zelenskyy’s travel plans remained opaque due to security concerns, the head of Ukraine’s national defense council, Oleksii Danilov, announced the trip on national television Friday, confirming news reports that he would attend.

Ukraine’s ambassador to France has lashed out at TV network RTL for airing a segment that likened President Vladimir Zelensky’s tour of Europe to a traveling circus. Vadim Omelchenko is demanding an apology.

The sarcastic characterization was“cynical and lacked tact,” the diplomat tweeted on Tuesday, adding that the French presenter and show producers had demonstrated neither empathy nor responsibility in airing it. The envoy demanded that RTL apologizes to Zelensky and the Ukrainian people. They are “fighting for their freedom and for yours,” he declared, as well as for their right to "live lives that are enjoyable."

GOP presidential candidates are slamming the FBI after a report from Special Counsel John Durham criticized the agency for its actions during the 2016 probe that scrutinized Donald Trump's 2016 campaign and its alleged ties to Russia.

It's complicated. Democratically, we are most likely to be swindled daily by the rich. They have their playground and we have ours. We may not be affected directly by Jeffrey Epstein's sexual antics, but we can be affected directly by Bill Gates' manipulations (philanthropic) of food, sex (genderisation) and pantomime pandemics.

Understanding the liquid layers of cash won't help us finding the truth...
