war is a business....

War is said to be good for business. This, perhaps, can’t be any truer than in America. The American economy, for all purposes, is a war-oriented economy. America and Israel’s ongoing war in the Middle East against Iran, which began on February 28 of this year, is a quintessential example of how, like the other wars that it has fought over the years, American arms companies manage to earn billions of dollars in profits that keep the military-industrial complex of the United States running.

America is Profiteering on the Coffins of Innocent Iranians

The ongoing war in the Middle East has seen American defense companies making gargantuan profits; these profits, however, come at the cost of the blood of hundreds of thousands of Iranians who have become the victims of American and Israeli aggression.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), defense companies the world over have earned over $600 billion in revenue. Of these, American defense companies account for more than half of the revenue. In this context, it becomes essential to analyze this matter in a thorough manner.

The American arms companies find it extremely convenient to keep the war going. For them, every war means a chance to earn profits. They simply don’t care if those profits are coming at the expense of the blood of innocent people

A Flood of Orders

As mentioned earlier, war is always good for business. This is particularly true when seen from the perspective of the record-breaking orders the American arms companies are receiving. According to a report, in the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, the American government approved orders under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route worth $45 billion. Out of these, nearly 81 percent went to the Middle East to serve the needs of America’s Arab allies who are facing the wrath of Iran’s retaliatory strikes.

Among these companies, Lockheed Martin, RTX (formerly Raytheon), Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and Boeing, among others, made the most profits. Weapon platforms like fifth generation fighter jets, cruise missiles like Tomahawks, air defense systems like MIM-104 Patriot air defense batteries, and anti-drone defense systems appear to be in extremely high demand.

Iman Darnika Al-Kamali, a political scientist and professor at St. Joseph University in Beirut, notes in her article “How the ‘Military Complex’ Is Absorbing American Democracy?” that Washington continues to employ a well-established model of prosperity through conflict. However, the sale of such weapons platforms is directly linked to something much grimmer—blood of innocent Iranians.

The author argues that the US military has transformed from a simple “customer” purchasing equipment into an integral part of a complex existential “network” that encompasses an industrial giant, a military machine, and research laboratories. This, according to the author, allows the US military-industrial complex to profit by supporting and lobbying for this expansionist geopolitical course. Thus, the system of checks and balances in the US is being undermined, the interests of voters are ignored, and American democracy is becoming a mere decorative façade used to serve the interests of arms concerns.

American Arms Companies Have Blood on Their Hands

Starting on February 28, under Operations Epic Fury and Lion’s Roar, America and Israel launched an air campaign that has unleashed hell on hundreds of thousands of innocent Iranians. According to official estimates, over three thousand people have been killed in Iran , and on the other hand, over two thousand civilians have died in Israel’s air raids in Lebanon. The American military assets, like fighter jets, missiles, bombs, aircraft carriers, UCAVs (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles) manufactured by these companies, are being used to rain death on innocent Iranians, whose only fault was that they refused to kowtow before the American Empire in general and the American President Donald Trump in particular.

Apart from the civilian casualties, damage to the Iranian economy has been immense. So far, Iran has borne losses worth $270 billion, which, coupled with the ongoing naval blockade imposed by the American Navy and the decades old economic sanctions, including the financial assets frozen by American financial institutions, has resulted in inflation assuming double-digit proportions.

The American naval blockade has resulted in the disruption of the Iranian supply of seaborne oil, thereby stifling Iran’s primary source of revenue. In addition to this, the ongoing war has halted work in over 20,000 factories, resulting in the loss of over one million direct jobs. If this wasn’t enough, according to an estimateby the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the ongoing war can cause a contraction of 8.8-10.4% of the Iranian economy, which may result in over three million Iranians being dragged below the poverty level.

This clearly demonstrates the fact that the American arms companies find it extremely convenient to keep the war going. For them, every war means a chance to earn profits. They simply don’t care if those profits are coming at the expense of the blood of innocent people. What’s left is for how long this hydra monster will continue to operate.
