Megyn Kelly Describes Unprecedented Moments as Trump Goes on Trial in NYC, and Iran Attacks Israel

New York: Donald Trump has kicked off his historic first criminal trial by trying unsuccessfully to remove the presiding judge before appearing to doze off during legal arguments.

In a heavily fortified New York courtroom on Monday (local time), the former president’s defence team and prosecutors also began the exhaustive task of selecting a 12-person jury from a pool of about 500 people to take part in the case, which centres on Trump’s alleged attempt to cover up a sex scandal ahead of the 2016 election.

seriously deranged in sydney and in the world.....

A Sydney bishop has been allegedly stabbed during a church service in the city's south-west on Monday night [15/04/2024], where police officers were also injured.

The attack occurred at the Assyrian Orthodox Church, Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, with graphic video showing a man lunging at Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel with something in his hand during a mass that was being broadcast online.

NSW Ambulance said three other people were also stabbed.

A male was arrested at the scene and "has been removed from the church and taken to an undisclosed location," according to NSW Police.

Suddenly, financial markets have become highly volatile, with the escalation of Middle East hostilities and last week’s increased US inflation reading generating tension and uncertainty.

The US dollar is surging and creating dilemmas for central bankers elsewhere.

Oil prices, already above $US90 a barrel, could go higher and add to the challenges faced by economic managers, depending on how Israel responds to the weekend barrage of drones and missiles.

Gold prices are at record levels despite the strength of the US dollar.

why would we do that?....

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin, like Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, “will not stop once the war against Ukraine is over.” The German government, meanwhile, continues to arm neo-Nazi units in Ukraine.

“Putin will not stop once the war against Ukraine is over,” Pistorius said in Berlin on Wednesday, at the launch of a book on Britain’s wartime prime minister, Winston Churchill.

Putin “has made that clear,” Pistorius continued. “Just as clearly as Hitler, who also always said that he would not stop.”

diplomacy alla bomba....

Liberal democracies remain shamefully complicit with Israel, despite its ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

Students of world politics have long understood that when it comes to the strategic interests of leading states, international law is marginalised unless it is useful in waging a propaganda war against adversaries.

Western powers never believed in a rules-based order    By Richard Falk

Indeed, the United Nations was designed in ways that recognised this feature of international political life. Otherwise, giving the winners of World War II a right of veto would make no sense.

brass tacks and corruption in europe....

Be serious now. If you woke up to Good Morning America and heard Vladimir Putin personally shot JFK with a Makarov pistol from the grassy knoll, would you be surprised? After all, Russia’s president surely rules the world already. And, he’s superhuman, too. He’s survived cancers, brain disorders, Russian uprisings and revolutions. Okay, the uprisings and revolutions were just figments of Washington’s imagination, but the other stuff is real, aren’t they? So, Putin being the cause of European corruption is no surprise.

negotiations between germany and russia are possible....

Negotiations between Germany and Russia are possible but only after Moscow gives up on its goals in the Ukraine conflict, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Saturday. The German leader told the newspaper TAZ that he would only talk with President Vladimir Putin if Russia “abandoned” its campaign.

When Russia started its military operation against Kiev in February 2022, it cited the need to protect the people of Donbass, eradicate Nazi ideology in Ukraine, and prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.

On Saturday, Scholz reiterated his pledge to “support Ukraine for as long as it is necessary.” When asked about when he thinks the conflict could end, the chancellor replied that “nobody can answer this question.”

of chemical weapons....

On 22 February this year, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) issued an opinion from the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) that found ISIL* responsible for the use of chemical weapons (CW) in the Syrian town of Mari in September 2015.

Despite the fact that it took the OPCW more than 8 years to state a known fact, the conclusion uses cautious language such as “there is reason to believe” that “only ISIL* could have had the intent, motive and capability” to use CW at this location.

perseverance in disaster.....

Retired UK general Sir Richard Barrons has told the BBC that there is “a serious risk” of Ukraine losing the conflict with Russia this year. With ammunition and manpower running low, Barrons warned that Ukrainian forces may be unable to hold back a major Russian offensive this summer.

“We are seeing Russia batter away at the front line, employing a five-to-one advantage in artillery, ammunition, and a surplus of people reinforced by the use of newish weapons,” Barrons told the British broadcaster.

have a rotten birthday....

NATO has been sold to the world as some kind of international security agency. How Orwellian can you get? Peace means war, security means chaos and threats, and rules-based order means domination and exploitation.

This week marks the 75th anniversary of NATO’s founding in April 1949. The organization has become a global danger to peace and security and should have been disbanded more than 30 years ago when the Cold War supposedly ended. That the alliance was not disbanded attests that its real purpose was always to serve as a weapon for U.S.-led Western imperialism.

Barely four years after the end of World War Two – the greatest calamity in world history – and amid the ruins of a devastated Europe and Asia, Western imperialism was once again reinventing its nefarious internal forces.
